Deirdre Connolly: A Song in Turn - Irish Traditional Music CD Reviews

"Deirdre has a lovely voice, clear and bright. Her voice brings out well the beauty of the songs. On Killarny, a song of longing for Ireland, a cappella she brings back to life the fellings and thoughts of the person who first wrote and felt the words. She offers also a version of Tommy Sands' tragic There Were Roses. Deirdre's recording does this song proud. It's also a reminder of how much progress has been made in the six counties. Deirdre's CD features not just songs, but also several tunes, as she plays the tin whistle. She shows her talents on traditional jigs, as well as some jigs that she composed herself. Tucked in among the songs from Deirdre is a song sung by her father, Mattie. His voice is warm and rich, full of the Irish soul and a collective memory of harder times."

Deirdre Connolly - Amazon Review

"Deirdre's angelic voice would warm the heart of any individual that has the great fortune of listening to her."

Ann Powers - New York Times review

"Cherish the Ladies may have it's own rock star in Deirdre Connolly, whose ardent singing won over the audience. Ms. Connolly also demonstrated her mastery on the whistle, but her vocal warmth mattered most to this phase in an estimable band's career."

Earle Hitchner - The Irish Echo

"Deirdre has a powerful voice, which she used to good effect. Deirdre Connolly is also a skilled tin whistle and flute player. In that sense, she is the first lead vocalist for Cherish who can contribute substantively to the dance tunes performed by the rest of the band. Such instrumental versatility from a singer is rare."
